About this attraction
Everything you need to know about The Pantheon
The Pantheon is the most perfectly preserved ancient Roman building in existence — built by Emperor Hadrian between 118 and 125 AD and virtually unchanged since. The dome (43.3 metres wide) was the largest in the world for 1,300 years, and the 9-metre circular opening at its apex — the Oculus — is still open to the sky.
Pre-booking is now required (since 2023). Tickets cost just €5 but must be reserved in advance. When rain falls through the Oculus, it drains through the slightly convex floor — one of the most elegant engineering solutions of the ancient world.
